Hop to It! Easter’s Only 3 Weeks Away!
Published by Bucks Country Gardens in Bucks Country Gardens
Nothing truly ushers in spring like Easter Sunday and the weeks leading up to it. The crocuses and hellebores, also know as Lenten Rose for good reason, are starting to bloom as Hyacinths, daffodils and tulips are poking through the still chilly earth. As a lifelong Pennsylvanian, I’ve always loved having all four seasons but spring has always been my favorite. There’s just something magical about the way nature wakes up after its winter hibernation. Of course, like all of us, after such a long, cold, white winter, spring just can’t get here soon enough.
I remember as a child getting ready for Easter meant many things: mom taking us to get the perfect Easter outfits, dying eggs, egg hunts and of course, Eastering up the house.
Whether it was one of my grandparents’ homes, another relative or ours, everyone in my family was eager to use Easter as an opportunity to finally be done with winter and welcome the warmer and colorful spring season.
Spring wreathes bursting with the colors of forsythia, tulips and daffodils adorned the doors. Bunnies and chicks, Easter baskets, flowers both silk and live were always to be found. My grandparents in particular had the most wonderful table decorations and figurines, most likely picked up at the local 5 and dime or department store. As a young child it was always fun to play with, although very carefully, since they were fragile, all the bunnies, ducks and chicks.
Sadly, I don’t really know what ever happened to all those figurines. They probably went to an older cousin or something. Oh well, thankfully there is Bethany Lowe Designs Inc. A variety of artists work with Bethany creating nostalgic figurines and collectibles that keep those childhood memories alive. She most certainly takes her inspiration from those vintage style pieces from the past. Bethany’s figurines are truly heirloom quality pieces and are crafted with meticulous details. Traveler Rabbit, encompassed by lifelike fur and a hand woven basket, is hand painted with such exquisite detail you can see the sparkle in his eyes.
A new favorite of mine since working here at Bucks Country Gardens are hand painted eggs from Peter Priess. Real chicken eggs are carefully blown and then decorated for a variety of holidays but obviously Easter is a no-brainer when it comes to decorated eggs. This year, we have a better selection than ever. Some are simply just painted while others are embellished with beads, pearls and even needlepoint.
While Mother Nature is still being a little uncooperative and Old Man Winter has become the house guest that just won’t leave, it always refreshing to walk through our gift shop where spring is alive and kicking. You are sure to find some wonderful and unique spring and Easter décor as soon as you walk through the door.
