How-to Create A Winter Greens Planter

Published by Heather Fesmire in Bucks Country GardensChristmasHome DecorPlants

Yes, your outside containers can look beautiful throughout the winter! Bucks Country Gardens elves are hard at work creating our one-of-a-kind fresh winter greens planters just for you. You can also create your own right at home…

After the colorful fall season, don’t be left with an empty container or urn sitting by your front door, waiting for spring. Simply add greens to those containers and now you’ve created a beautiful and magical winter look, one your family and friends can enjoy over the holidays.

Our Winter Greens Planters

At Bucks Country Gardens, we design a mix of evergreen boughs, such as white pine, Frasier fir, incense cedar, Port Orford cedar, Douglas fir, and juniper in soil. We vary the lengths and textures of the boughs to create full and inviting designs. Boxwood and/or holly can be added to the arrangement, though they are rather short lived.

Winterberry and white birch twigs can be added for color. Other options include artificial berries, Christmas ornaments, glittered branches, bows, pinecones, and birds. There are so many options! Come in and have one of our designers help create the perfect planter for your porch or patio.

We create these arrangements in different size plastic containers that can stand alone or fit right into your empty pot sitting by your front door. We also have ready-to-go greens planter inserts that fit nicely into most urns, as well as hanging baskets. If you have a unique size container and would like that planted, we can do that too!

Create your Own Winter Greens Planter

If you are preparing your own container, consider planting spring bulbs in your container first. Plant the bulbs to the depth suggested on your package. Place them close together, but not on top of each other, and add a little bulb food. We suggest Espoma Bulbtone.

Cover bulbs over with soil and then begin planting your greens. In March, when you pull your greens out your bulbs will be popping out! To complete this spring look, add more flowers between them.

Whether you have a Bucks Country Gardens created greens planter or a magnificent creation all your own, water your planter as needed until the soil freezes and then enjoy it throughout the winter and into the spring.

When family and friends visit, we guarantee they will enjoy the magical winter creation sitting by your front door.
